Is Quick Weight Loss Realistic?

”Create a plan that will work.”

Quick weight loss is a goal of many people but is it safe and is it really realistic?

Wanting a quick weight loss of 5 pounds to fit comfortably into a dress or suit for a special occasion is very different than wanting to lose 50 pounds very fast. And even though it is easier to lose 5 pounds quickly than it is to lose 50, you will still need a plan to keep it off. We recommend using hypnosis to lose weight and keep it off. Check out some interesting products sold at the The Unexplainable Store.

We have all seen on television, contestants who lose 10, 20 even 35 pounds in just one week!

How do they do it?

First and most importantly, they are under the supervision of one or more doctors. As well, they are learning to prepare and eat healthy meals under the guidance of dietitians without tempting foods being present. They are drinking lots of water, exercising 4-6 hours per day with a trainer. They also have the support of each other which can be critical in weight loss.

Most people would lose weight under that type of regime.

But it is not realistic for most of us. Many of us lead stressful lives with conflicting demands on our time, have families and hold down one or more jobs. We don’t exercise enough and we may not know how to cook healthy meals or even what a reasonable portion looks like. It is simply not reasonable to expect to lose weight that quickly.

What can we do?

We can work with our doctors and health care providers, drink lots of water, eat healthy meals and exercise even if it is only 10-15 minutes per day. In other words, we can create a plan that will work. Remember though that health experts still agree that losing just 1-2 pounds per week is a healthy and realistic goal.

Colorful fruits and vegetables on a scale signifying a healthy way to lose weight. It is important to remember that willpower alone is not enough. You may be able to attain quick weight loss, but keeping it off requires a long-term sustainable plan.

And as disappointing as it may be, eating healthy foods and the proper amounts may not be enough for successful weight management. We are all creatures of habit and losing weight and keeping weight off will require that new habits are formed.

One of the best ways to form a new habit is to change the way we think about food. Learning why we eat, what we eat, when we eat and even where we eat is a good place to start. Once you are aware of the reasons behind overeating, it can be easier to identify troublesome situations. Using hypnosis to lose weight is a great way to create the new habits needed for successful weight loss. We recommend the products available through The Unexplainable Store.

Likewise, it is equally important to understand our thoughts and behaviours around exercise. Our bodies are meant to move and learning why we choose to be sedentary rather than lead an active lifestyle may be what is keeping you from attaining the weight and healthy lifestyle you desire.

Keeping a food and exercise diary for a week or more will help you understand your eating and activity patterns. But if it were that simple, we likely wouldn’t have obesity problems. We must interpret the information and learn to change the way we think about food and our behaviours related to food management and exercise.

This type of treatment is called cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy and sometimes cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive therapy helps a patient identify and change their thinking, behaviour and emotional responses to a variety of subjects. Overeating and obesity are just one of the areas where a therapist could help. The therapists are usually psychologists or social workers trained in the field. Consult your primary health care provider for referrals if you are considering this approach.

If you would be more relaxed trying these strategies from the comfort of your own home, there are some reputable companies who offer programs that may help. However, you must be disciplined when using these programs. Make the time and ensure a quiet space for your home treatments just as you would if you had made an appointment to visit a therapist in their office.

Remember it is fairly easy to obtain quick weight loss of a small amount of weight, but successful, long term weight loss requires commitment to a real plan.
