Thank you for being so kind to give me this opportunity and to share my story so that it may help someone else.
In 1991 I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and soon after that Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS). My life was changing before my eyes and there was no magic shot, pill or food that I knew of to help me get back to what I used to know as normal.
My CFS was debilitating for months and it forced me to have to quit my job. I remained at home resting, sleeping a lot and trying to eat better when I was awake. After months, I regained some of my energy but I was no longer able to carry on my life the way it 'used to be'. Too much stress and too many hours.
My immune system took a hit to the point that I would catch any germ that was in the air and become sick. A cold was no longer just a cold. It developed into a sinus infection within 2 days and in less than a week I had bronchitis or pneumonia. This was constant for me and I lived in the doctors office, had been sent for CT scans, MRI's, extensive allergy testing all with 'normal' results.

I became a walking medical mystery to all these doctors. Each time I got sick I was given different and stronger medications because the ones that 'used to work' no longer worked. I had now developed antibiotic resistance.
In February 2009 a friend of mine on the West Coast introduced me to healthy chocolates. He knew I had been sick for quite some time and suggested I try the chocolate with probiotics because probiotics stimulate the immune system.
Not knowing exactly what 'healthy chocolate' was, I decided I'd try it because my future looked grim. If antibiotics were not working then that meant I'd be in the hospital for a common cold that was really life threatening. I decided I didn't want to live in a bubble and that I needed to do something.
I began eating these chocolates in March 2009 and did exactly what he told me to do 'eat 3 a day'. Within a few weeks I began noticing that I was not falling asleep by 9pm but an hour or so later. That worried me because I thought I'd get run down and get sick again. That never happened.
I continued to eat these chocolates faithfully. I was experiencing more energy, clearer thought processes, sleeping and waking rested without the foggy head. After 4.5 months I had a realization that my CFS symptoms were gone and a few months later my IBS was also gone.
I set out to discover why these chocolates did what no doctor could ever do. I learned that when the body is out of balance the body develops illness. I learned that magnesium was something that was missing from my diet because the dizzy feeling I used to get that just showed up out of the blue, no longer happened.
I learned that flavanols from plant-based foods in fruits and veggies also contained antioxidants.

Together these two components of antioxidants and flavanols worked harmoniously to help repair and restore damage that oxidation had done to my body.
Pure chocolate, like healthy chocolate, is actually a wonderful medicinal food and has many anti-inflammatory properties which helped ease the pain I had in my body.
The massive doses of probiotics I had received (3 billion a day, everyday) were able to flourish and multiply in my gut and intestines to work for me by helping shut the door to additional illness.
To date my doctors are stunned. I am thrilled. I have not been sick AT ALL since December 2008.
What I have learned, too is that Western Medicine has been taught some really great things to help so many people, but if it comes to something that is in nature, something that God has given us, it couldn't possibly work and they have dismissed my healing.
The truth be told is that I was now giving my body what had been missing for so many years, a complete balance of vitamins and nutrients in a supplement that happens to be chocolate.
It is not rocket science, it is God's medicine.
I am blessed to have my life back. I am blessed that I can do what I want to do and not live in a bubble. I am blessed that I have a future of hope rather than looking at the possibility of getting so sick that I landed in a hospital and could die prematurely.
Searching for alternatives was something that was foreign to me. Holistic was not a word in my vocabulary. Using foods to heal my body never even entered my mind because all the foods that were and are available in stores have been processed.
How could food heal the body?
That just didn't make sense to me. Eating fruits and veggies is something anyone can do, but just how much of that can one really stomach let alone afford?
You'd have to eat mountains of produce daily to get these essential vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants and flavanoids.
I am happy that I can eat healthy chocolate to feel this good now and still nibble on my veggies and fruits.
As I reflect I am now saving tons of money by avoiding co-pays, tests and more drugs. Life is good, again :)
